The second part of matches this evening, ended with England and Germany victorious, in the Women’s Doubles and the Men’s Doubles.

Smith and Birch dominate

In the first match, Lauren Smith/Chloe Birch took the title in the Women’s Doubles category against Ekaterina Bolotova and Alina Davletova from Russia.

The pair from England went into this one as slight underdogs on the World Ranking and showed their qualities to beat their opponents in straight games.

The first game was quite close between both pairs but Smith and Birch turned on the style in the second and won 21-12.

It might not have been the prettiest of badminton this week, but we came for the win and that is what we did, Chloe Birch said.

We turned the tactics around and then finished off well in an all rounded game so we are pretty happy, Lauren Smith added.

Men’s Doubles victory for Germany

The second match was not as straight forward for England, as Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge lost in straight games against Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel.

The first game was a close contest in the end, with the English pair coming from several points down but they still lost the game.

In the second it was close at the beginning but once the Germans got into their stride it was hard for Ellis and Langridge.
