Europe’s final hope of winning a title at this weeks Australian Open in Sydney ended today after England’s Chris and Gabrielle Adcock’s hopes were ended in the Quarter-Finals today.

The Husband and Wife pair put up a good fight but fell short in both games against the World number two pair of China’s Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping.

In the first game, the pair were comfortably beaten with the Chinese pair scoring eight consecutive points to take the game from 12-10 to 20-10 and they never looked back.

They rounded the first game out with a 21-11 win and in the second it was much of the same. Huang and Wang scored four consecutive points early on in game two and managed to hold that lead throughout the game. Chris and Gabby fought on valiantly but in the end, the tournaments top seeds were just too much for them, winning the second game 21-17.

Huang and Wang will now face the Hong Kong pair of Chun Man Tang and Ying Suet Tse in the Semi-Finals tomorrow.

What’s next for the Adcock’s?

Despite falling short in Sydney, the Adcock’s won’t be too disappointed with their performance down under as they continue their preparation for this month’s European games.

In just over two weeks’ time, the pair will begin their campaign in Minsk and will be expected to get themselves a good result.

The pair have been drawn in group A for the tournament Belarus and as the top seeds in the Mixed Doubles, they’ll be hoping they can come away with their first trophy of the year.
