Ready for Gniezno

Save the date: From 30 August to 7 September 2019, Europe’s young stars will be participating in the European U17 Championships in Gniezno, Poland. 

This year, Gniezno is the host of the biggest badminton tournament in Europe for U17 players. The youngsters will be competing at the Championships individually, as well as in a team. 

35 countries have now been confirmed for the team competition. The seeding will get underway on Friday (14 June), the live draw on Tuesday (18 June).

Press conference in Gniezno

Last week, a press conference was organised and attended by the President of the Polish Badminton Association, Marek Krajewski, and the President of the city of Gniezno, Tomasz Budasz. 

The organisation of the tournament was discussed and the strategic sponsor "Enea S.A." was presented. Furthermore, a contract between the city of Gniezno and the Polish Badminton Association, concerning the event, has been signed.

Second U17 Championships in Poland

It will be the second time that the Championships will be held in Poland. In 2016, the event took already place in Lubin, where 33 countries competed in the team event and 308 players from 38 countries participated in the individual event.

Gniezno has been the first capital of Poland and is located in central-western Poland with a population of nearly 69,000 people. It is just 45 kilometres away from Poznan, which will be the official airport for the event. 

The hall, which is used for a variety of sports, can fit six courts and has a capacity of 1,500 people.
