France has finished 14th in the BWF TOTAL Sudirman Cup after losing out to Canada in a 1-3 defeat in Nanning.

France was victorious in Men’s Doubles, but was unable to continue the trend and lost the following three categories.

Best possible start

The highlight for the French team today was the Men’s Doubles. Thom Gicquel/Ronan Labar won the match in straight games in the Men’s Doubles Category.

The pair managed to win 21-17, in the first game and then kept their composure to win 21-16 in the second.

- We are glad to get the win. We knew that it would have been a decisive game and we took it very seriously. We played very well so it was a great feeling to end up with the win for the team, Ronan Labar said.

-It has been a very good week for the team in general. On a personal side, I think I could have played on a higher level, but as long as you give your best then that is the most important.
Not able to carry on

Unfortunately, France was not able to win any more matches and lost in Women’s Singles, Men’s Singles and Women’s Doubles, giving Canada the win 3-1 overall.

Brice Leverdez played against Brian Yang, but lost in straight games, while Yaelle Hoyaux lost against Michelle Li in the Women’s Singles category.

After that, the tie was settled, Canada’s Rachel Honderich/Kisten Tsai managed to win in straight games against EmilieLefel/Anne Tran to win the tie for Canada.

Good team spirit

Labar and the rest of the French team are in good morale, and this could be because they are such a close group.

Even at individual tournaments, the support from the team to whoever is competing is from the heart and Labar believes, that it is a positive thing.

- We are all quite close together. As except for Brice (Leverdez), we all practice together in the national centre.

- We are having a lot of fun together so of course when you enjoy being together it’s easier to perform
