The Sudirman Cup 2019 in Nanjing is coming closer and closer: Twenty-one nations from all over the world will show the best they got. Europe is well represented with twelve teams divided in all four groups.

The first and top group is divided in four sub groups. In this category will be decided who will bring the Sudirman Cup to their home nation. Denmark, Russia and England belong to the best twelve teams of the world and can take a shot to this precious title.

Denmark and England are both placed in subgroup 1B with Indonesia. Only the first two teams will proceed to the quarter final stage, so it will be a real challenge for Denmark and England to keep Indonesia down.

Russia is in subgroup 1A with Japan and Thailand. Japan is making huge progress in all events, which is no surprise why they are the favorites to claim the title.

Group 2

While group 1 has teams with top players in all events, group 2 has more individually good players. (Former) Top 10-players like Michelle Li (Canada), Selena Piek (The Netherlands) and German pair Mark Lamsfuss/Isabel Herttrich all come in action in group 2.

The Netherlands and Germany are favorites to claim the top spot in group 2. The Netherlands face France in their subgroup: A rematch of the European Mixed team championships. With USA and Vietnam, the tough subgroup 2A is complete.

Germany faces the challenge with Canada, Singapore and Israel, so exciting matches are guaranteed!

Group 3 and Greenland

Group 3 consists of smaller nations who are still active in the international circuit. Siblings Sam, Joshua and Chloe Magee will represent Ireland, who is top seeded in group 3. They face two nations from down under, Australia and New Zealand, and Nepal.

Group 3B is more Europe-orientated, as Switzerland, Slovakia and Lithuania are all in one group. Sri Lanka tops it off with the well-known Dinuka Karunaratna.

In group 4 are the small nations in badminton, this year consisting of Macau, Kazakhstan and Greenland. It is always nice to see these countries get a platform to show themselves. As always, Greenland will also take this opportunity with both hands.
