Matos will for the period 2019-2023 be the BWF Vice-President for Europe.

At Annual Delegate’s Meeting in Kiev the Member Associations of Badminton Europe had to elect the new
BWF Vice-President for Europe, a position which became vacant when the now former Badminton Europe President and BWF-Vice President for Europe chose not to seek reelection for his positions.

The candidates to the position as BWF Vice-President were Richard Vaughan, Wales (Board Member of Badminton Europe), Robbert de Kock, Switzerland (Board Member of Badminton Europe) and Joao Matos, Portugal (Vice-President of Badminton Europe).

43 Member Associations attended the Annual Delegate’s Meeting and voted in favor of the Portuguese.

Joao Matos will be acting as the BWF Vice-President for Europe until 2023.

- It is an honour. I appreciate the possibility to serve the sport of badminton in this new function, Matos says.

- I will be a strong voice defending our MA’s and their opinions. I am looking very much forward to it.

- Badminton Europe is one of the leading confederations in badminton on ideas and projects to develop our sport and I will continue that work.

Matos will start his term as BWF Vice-President as of 24 May 2019.
