Julie Dawall Jakobsen has won the Women’s Singles final at the Finnish Open 2019 in straight games after beating Porntip Buranaprasertsuk, at the Energia Arena in Vantaa.
The Dane went into this one as fifth seed coming up against the number three seed in her Thailand opponent.
Straight games
Jakobsen managed to become the first European from today’s finals to win against a tough Asian opponent.
The Dane took the first game in a reasonably comfortable style, winning 21-18 to give herself the momentum going into the second.
The next game was not as straight forward for Jakobsen, and Buranaprasertsuk came back into the game but the Dane used her qualities to make sure that she would bring the title home to Denmark, winning the second 23-21.
A very happy Dane
Julie Dawall Jakobsen was feeling very happy after beating the third seed of the tournament and feels that she has proven something with her game to herself.
I am happy, I think Porntip is a good player so I am just really happy that I could beat her today, and a gold medal is always good, Julie Dawall Jakobsen said.
I think that I got better game by day, I have beaten some good players and I am happy to have beaten five players and I am happy with my game as well, she added.
A nice one to look forward to
Denmark Challenge is going to be a tough one, a lot of good players are playing and the Olympic Qualifying is happening then too, she said.
It will be nice to play on home soil though so I am looking forward to that, Jakobsen added.
