Laura Sarosi (Hungary) has climbed eight spots up on this week’s world ranking list and is now ranked no. 126. The Rio 2016 Olympian and a participant in the 2015 European Games hasn’t managed to qualify for this year’s European Games as Hungary’s Agnes Korosi was ranked higher on the BWF women’s singles world ranking list last week, when the qualification period was over.
-I really wanted to qualify because I have some good memories from Baku but sometimes you can’t get what you want and what you work for, says Sarosi.
She has been struggling with an injury for the last few months:
-During the Christmas break on the second training I twisted my ankle badly and I broke the ligaments. I had gypsum for a week and needed crutches for two more weeks. Even though I had an amazing team around me it took me more than two months to recover and I’m still not 100 percent ready yet.
Coming back stronger
Though Sarosi lost her chance to qualify for the European Games with only one week, she is still positive about the situation:
- I am happy because I have learnt so many positive things during the last few months. It was just a bad timing.
With the help of her coaches she has been making progress and slowly coming back into the international circuit. She has bigger goals, which include getting back to the top 100 and qualifying for the Olympic Games in 2020. However, for Sarosi, it’s also about enjoying the game on the way.
Other changes in the ranking lists
Brice Leverdez (France) continues to move up the men’s singles world ranking list. This week he is standing on position no. 26.
Last week’s Polish Open women’s singles runner-up Yvonne Li (Germany) has climbed three spots up to reach her career-best result - no. 41.
Last week’s India Open semifinalists Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (Denmark) have moved two spots up to occupy position no. 7 on the men’s doubles world ranking list.
