Marcus Ellis has spoken to Badminton Europe about the positives of playing in a warm country, the Englishman will start his Malaysia Open today!

With excellent talents across all five categories, the competition is at its very best as we approach the start of the Super 750 tournament.

With sixteen representations from Europe, there is a small chance that we could see a European on the podium, especially Viktor Axelsen, who impressed by winning the 2019 India Open last week.

Time for a suntan

One player, who will be wanting to continue the year he had in 2018 on the tour, is Marcus Ellis.

Ellis speaking to Badminton Europe about the climate and favoured the chance to be in the sun rather than a dull England.

“The difference in climate is one of many challenges, but it is something you adjust to as you get more experienced. If anything, it is nice to be in the warm sun for a while after the winter that we have just had,” Marcus Ellis said.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist admits that the Mixed Doubles match will be harder to prepare for, but thinks of the positives of the tie.

"The Mixed match is a new pair for us, which can make our preparations harder but at the same time, playing new pairs is also nice because they do not know what you will bring either," Ellis said.

"Another English pair played them at the All England, so we have all of the information we need but it will still be a tough match," he added.
