After beating Pedersen/Christiansen, the current world ranked number 17 pair from China had to deal with another Danish pair, Rikke Søby and Mathias Bay-Smidt, who are currently ranked 102, in today’s semi-final of the YONEX Swiss Open 2019.
But the favourite on paper faced a strong Danish pair today. After losing the first game close 20-22, Bay-Smidt/Søby took the second one 21-19.
Then, the deciding game took place in front of the crowd in the Sankt Jakobshalle. After a thrilling fight, the Danes were able to surprise and won close, with 23-21. The match lasted 68 exciting minutes.
"It is just crazy that we won. I cannot really believe it. I am just very happy", Søby said after the match.
"They (Lu/Chen) also beat a Danish pair in the first round of the tournament. So, we were definetly seeking for revenge for Denmark today", Bay-Smidt added.
