After 1,5 years, Christinna Pedersen and Mathias Christiansen have played their last match together, at the Swiss Open 2019 in Basel. Pedersen has ended her career in the national team.
Lu Kai and Chen Lu – these are the names that Christinna Pedersen will for sure remember. The Chinese Mixed Doubles pair is the last one that Pedersen has faced in her badminton career for the Danish national team.
19-21, 23-21 and then… 17-21. A close but lost match for Christinna Pedersen and Mathias Christiansen in the quarterfinal of the YONEX Swiss Open 2019 in Basel. After the last match point for the Chinese, the arena gets noisy, the crowd stands up and applauds.
“It is strange to stand here and have played my last match”
A lot of spectators have made their way to the Sankt Jakobshalle to see the last match of Christinna Pedersen, together with Mathias Christiansen. The match in the third round of the BWF World Tour 300 tournament has been the last one for Christinna Pedersen.
“I am very happy how we managed to play today, it was a difficult match, no matter if it was my last match. I want to thank Mathias so much, it has been a pleasure to play with him for one and a half years. It is strange to stand here and have played my last match”, Pedersen said.
Since October 2017, Christinna Pedersen and Mathias Christiansen have successfully played together in Mixed Doubles.
They have won the India Open 2018 and reached the final of the European Championships as well as the Korea Open 2018 and the semi-finals of the All England 2018. The pair finishes their partnership as the current world ranked number 15 pair.

Next to Pedersen, Kamilla Rytter Juhl will also end her career for the national team. The couple will focus on their new family, but Pedersen assures that badminton would always play a role in their lives.
