Defeats for two European top pairs

The two European Mixed Doubles pairs of Isabel Herttrich/Mark Lamsfuss and Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith are out of the YONEX Swiss. They lost their quarterfinal matches on Friday.

Both pairs have reached the final in Basel last year. The Germans were the defending champions and the English have been the runner-ups.

Ellis/Smith missed a spot in semi-finals, after a rather easy match in the second round. Today, they have faced strong opponents with Rivalry/Mentari from Indonesia, who are also the current world ranked number 19.

Same goes for Lamsfuss/Herttrich. The 2018 defending champions could not find a way to make a difference against the pair from Chinese Taipei, who are ranked 176. This is a quite surprising defeat for the Germans who are the current number 18 in the world.

“We are very disappointed, that was not a good performance from us”, Lamsfuss said after the match.
