Evgeniya Kosetskaya, silver medalist at the 2018 European Championships, lost to Sung Ji Hyun in the quarterfinals of the YONEX Swiss Open.

The Russian reached the semi-finals last year, but today the challenge was difficult to overcome. Sung Ji Hyun who owned a 3-0 head-to-head series lead against Kosetskaya, took a 9-2 lead in the first game.

The never-say-die fighting spirit of Kosetskaya, seeded eighth, was not rewarded. Despite a come back, she was not able to take the upper hand and with unforced errors she lost the first game 21-18.

No chance for a deciding game as the Korean, seeded number four, let Kosetskaya at a loss, as to how to break through her defense and sealed a second game, 21-11, and a spot to semi-finals against Chen Yufei.
