After a 30 minutes’ match, Lauren Smith and Marcus Ellis have reached the quarterfinals of the YONEX Swiss Open 2019.

The English pair showed quite a strong performance, after beating the married couple Audrey and Gaetan Mittelheisser from France in straight games (21-13, 21-15).

Their first round match was quite different compared to today’s match, as they had to impose themselves even more by managing to handle the pressure, despite a close match (22-20, 21-19).

Ready for the next round in Basel

Today, it seems that they had everything under control and they are satisfied with their game.

“I think it was improved from our first round match, which I think is a good thing”, Marcus Ellis said after the match.

Their goal is to win, of course, but they are taking one match at a time.

“It’s just taking game by game, get better every time we play and step on court everyday with a fresh focus”, Lauren Smith added.

Ellis and Smith are looking forward to doing better than last year, and are maybe getting gold this time.
