The match on Thursday, in the second round of the YONEX Swiss Open 2019, could have been the last one for Pedersen and Christiansen. With Jessica Pugh and Ben Lane from England, the current world number 15 pair had to face strong opponents.

After more than 70 minutes and an exciting match, the Danes finally won the game (18-21, 21-16, 24-22).

"It was a long fight. Mentally, it was very tough. We struggled a bit and they (Jessica Pugh/Ben Lane) played very well. But we are relieved that we won in the end”, Christiansen said shortly after the match.

“I did not want to end it today. We want to play at least one more match, the quarterfinal tomorrow. I try to enjoy playing together with Mathias”, Pedersen added.

Last tournament together

Every match in Basel, could be the last one for the Danish Mixed Doubles pair. Tomorrow, they will play the quarterfinal in Basel.

“We take each match at a time. Now, we play against a very strong Chinese pair, Lu Kai and Chen Lu, so that will be very difficult. But for now, we are happy before we start focusing on tomorrow’s match”, Christiansen said.
