Johanna Goliszewski and Lara Käpplein have faced Anne Tran/Emilie Lefel for the first time at an international level, at the YONEX Swiss Open 2019 in Basel. The result: positive.

The first match
ever between Johanna Goliszewski/Lara Käpplein and Anne Tran/Emilie Lefel at a BWF World Tour tournament has been a quite spectacular one.

A spectacular first match

After winning the first game straight 21-13, the Germans had to handle the better ranked French pair that managed to come back with a fight. But Johanna Goliszewski and Lara Käpplein had strong nerves and won the second game 25-23, after a comeback before.

“To be honest, we had a lot of fun on court today. Of course, we knew that we were the underdogs, but we also knew that we can play well against them, as we already faced them in league training matches”, Johanna Goliszewski said after the match.

“I think the key was that we have enjoyed playing today. It has been a great premiere for us”, Goliszewsk said.

Tomorrow, the German pair is facing Chang Ching Hui and Yang Ching Tun from Chinese Taipei.

“I honestly do not even know who to face tomorrow”

For Johanna Goliszewski and Lara Käpplein, the victory in the first round of the YONE Swiss Open 2019 against a strong French pair came a bit surprisingly.

“Actually, we did not have a specific goal for this tournament, except for delivering a top first match and then see what it brings. But now, we are very happy that it has been enough to win. I honestly do not even know who to face tomorow, Käpplein said shortly after the match.

“We hope to have a lot of fun on court again tomorrow and show our best. And then, we will see if it is enough again”, she added.

After some struggles in the previous years, the pair is now glad to perform well together on court again.

“Lara had to deal with a lot of injuries in the previous years, so we are happy to practise well for a longer period and are able to play some tournaments”, Goliszewski said.
