After qualifying for the main round in Basel, Felix Burestedt had to accept a defeat in the first round of the BWF World Tour 300 tournament.

For the Centre of Excellence (CoE) player, Felix Burestedt, the Swiss Open began successfully with winning two matches in the qualification round on Tuesday, including a one-hour-match against Germany’s Kai Schäfer and a close match against Eetu Heino from Finland.

With Felix Burestedt facing Parupalli Kashyap in the first round of the Swiss Open in Men’s Singles, the number 87 in the world from Sweden was playing against the current number 50 from India – a duel that did not get underway before.

In the end, the better ranked man won the match closely (21-19, 21-17) after intense 47 minutes. For Burestedt, it has been the first defeat in Basel.

“Parupalli has been ranked very high in the world before. He played very comfortable, he did not make it easy for me. I had to create everything myself. I ended up with the same patterns and he caught them up very quickly”, Burestedt said after the match.

“So, he kind of punished me for my moves. That was the difference between us today, he was a little bit better. I think that I was doing okay today. I feel a bit tired now, mentally. But I do not know if I could have played much better anyway, so I am still satisfied”, he added.

“My goal was to qualify for the main round”

All in all, it has been a good experience to participate in the YONEX Swiss Open 2019 for the Centre of Excellence player.

“My goal was to qualify for the main round. And I did that, so I am quite happy”, Burestedt said.

Now, the Swede is focusing on his next big steps.

“I am mainly focusing on the European Games. I am going home now, then, I am playing at the Finnish Open and afterwards, I have an intense training block period before the European Games”.
