From 12-17 March, the YONEX Swiss Open 2019 will be getting underway in Basel, Switzerland. For Christinna Pedersen, it will be the last tournament for the Danish national team.
The YONEX Swiss Open will begin today, with the qualification round getting underway at 12.00 PM (CET) in the venue of the Sankt Jakobshalle.
The event will then continue with the matches of the first round taking place around 6 PM. Until the final day on Sunday, 17th of March, spectators are able to attend the BWF World Tour 300 tournament in Basel.
Last tournament for Pedersen/Christiansen
After announcing her career end at the Danish national team, all eyes will be on Christinna Pedersen who is playing her last tournament in the Danish national dress with her partner, Mathias Christiansen.
For Pedersen, it is also the last chance to win a title on an international stage and to end her national career with a BWF World Tour title.
Pedersen's compatriot, Viktor Axelsen, is currently world ranked numer six and seeded number three for the tournament. With Shi Yuqi and Chen Long as the top seeds in Men’s Singles, the Dane would have had a strong competition.
Axelsen withdrew, Burestedt plays qualification
But right before the tournament got underway on Tuesday, Axelsen withdrew from the YONEX Swiss Open, after a strong performance and a tough week reaching the final in Birmingham previously.
After winning the Men’s Singles of the 54 Portuguese International Championships 2019, the Centre of Excellence (CoE) player, Felix Burestedt, will be participating in the YONEX Swiss Open.
The Swede will meet Kai Schäfer from Germany in the first round of the qualification.
