On Wednesday, Denmark was able to take the first win in the group stage of the European Mixed Team Championships against France, the Netherlands won close against Spain.

4-1 is the final result for Denmark on Day 1 of the European Mixed Team Championships in Copenhagen. Except for the Women’s Doubles, the team was dominating in all categories with victories after two games.

As the first Dane, Anders Antonsen was playing in the Men’s Singles against his French opponent, Lucas Corvee. After 52 minutes, Antonsen was the first winner for Denmark at the 2019 European Mixed Team Championships.

- I am happy with how I have handled the first match for Denmark on home soil. I was happy to take the first lead for the team, Antonsen said after the match.

Whereas Denmark was able to win the first group matches on home soil, Spain had to accept a defeat of 2-3 against the Netherlands.

After winning the first match in Women’s Singles, the team was just able to win the last match against their Dutch opponents in Mixed Doubles.

The Netherlands have a good team, but are still the underdogs, compared to the favourite, Denmark, and the number two seeded team of England, that lost their first group matches against Russia earlier today.

- We have a strong new team and I think we have a chance in all categories. We are a nice outsider, but we are here to win a medal, Selena Piek said after her Women’s Singles match with Cheryl Seinen.
