Carolina Marin has been gone through surgery, after the diagnose of breaking the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. The injury happened during the Indonesian Masters final last Sunday.

After the medical evaluation, an arthroscopy was performed at the CEMTRO Clinic in Madrid and the ligament was rebuilt by a hamstring tendon of Marin's own femoral biceps muscle. After a period of hospitalization, she will begin with the rehabilitation process immediately.

Although the recovery period varies according to the evolution, six to eight months are marked as the reference period. Tokyo 2020 is still the main goal at the end of the path.

The rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament is a typical injury in the world of badminton. The characteristic elements of the same as the jumps and the reception in the support of a single leg, as well as the stops of high impact and the changes of direction are the main causes of this type of injury.

The Spanish Badminton Federation has sent the maximum support to Carolina Marin to face the rehabilitation process and her return to the court.

The full recovery in the optimal conditions of the Olympic champion, triple world champion and four-time European champion is the main objective in the process that opens from now on.
