At the end of a gruelling Indonesia Masters, there were mixed emotions on the final day in Jakarta.

Anders Antonsen has written his name in the history of badminton, after becoming the first European player of any category to win the Indonesia Masters.

While Carolina Marin unfortunately retired midway through the first game against Saina Nehwal, due to an injury.

All smiles for Antonsen

Anders Antonsen took all the plaudits on the final day of the tournament, after beating Kento Momota in a three-game thriller match.

The Dane took the first game 21-16 against Momota, who had not been beaten by a European player since 2014. Before, the Japanese star levelled things with a 21-14 win.

It was clear that it would take a lot to beat the best player in the world and Antonsen definitely showed class and won the third and deciding game 21-16.

Marin retires through injury

Carolina Marin was looking for her first tournament championship in 2019, but an injury sealed her fate in this one.

After leading the first game 10-4, the Spaniard landed awkwardly and her knee suffered an injury which ended her participation in the tournament.

Marin is due to travel to Copenhagen in two weeks for the European Mixed Team Championships, but this injury decreases the chances of her playing a part for Spain.
