The Daihatsu Indonesian Masters continued with the Semi Finals in Jakarta being played today.

Europe had four representatives in today’s Semi Finals and two of them have managed to come through their match-ups to have a chance of claiming the title tomorrow. 

Consecutive finals for Marin

Carolina Marin has made it to her second consecutive final to start her 2019. The Spaniard made it to tomorrows final in the Women’s Singles after a marathon long 68-minute match with Chen Yufei, eventually winning 17-21, 21-11, 23-21.

After losing the opening game, things looked bleak for the fifth seed but Marin dominated the second game to take control of the match-up and despite a nervy ending to the final game, where she let a 20-15 lead slip to a 21-21 tie, Marin eventually regained her composure and closed the game out 23-21.

The World number four will now face India’s Saina Nehwal in the final tomorrow.

Mixed day for the Dane’s in the Men’s Singles

It was a mixed day for Denmark and Europe’s final two hopefuls in the Men’s Singles.

The day started off with a bang as Anders Antonsen (Denmark) romped to a straight game victory over home crowd favourite Jonatan Christie (Indonesia) 21-18, 21-16.

The World number 20 has had an impressive tournament so far and came back from 16-12 down in the opening game before winning seven consecutive points to eventually take the opener 21-18 and then comfortably taking the second game 21-16.

On the other hand, Viktor Axelsen could not make it an all Dane final after his defeat to World number one Kento Momota (Japan).

Despite the number six seeds best efforts he just did not have enough to stand the wrath of the World number one, eventually losing out 21-15, 21-4. It was a dominating performance from the Japanese superstar who sets up a clash with Antonsen in the final tomorrow.

World number One’s too much for Astrup and Rasmussen

It was a similar story to Axelsen for Danish Men’s Doubles pair Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen as they fell to defeat against Indonesian hero’s Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo 21-19, 21-13.

The Dane’s just missed out in a very tight opening game and led 9-4 early on in the second but the World number one’s just had too much for them in the end. They make it through to what will be an all Indonesian final in the Men’s Doubles tomorrow to guarantee a winner for the home crowd.
