Anders Antonsen picked up a somewhat unexpected victory in the opening round of the Indonesian Masters today.

The BWF Super 500 event is host to a number of the World’stop Badminton players, all in hope of coming away with the title come finals day on Sunday 27th January.

Antonsen knocks out Son

Denmark’s Anders Antonsen moves into round two after an impressive victory over Korea’s Son Wan Ho, 21-17, 6-21, 21-15.

The Korean was expected to perform well here after being seeded 5th for the tournament but was beaten by the impressive Antonsen.

After winning a tight first game, the Dane was comfortably beaten by Son in the second but managed to bounce back in the decider. Antonsen was able to win four consecutive points with the score at 15-14 to eventually take control of the final game and knock out the World number four.

       - The World number 20 was clearly happy with his performance writing on Instagram. Big win for me today. Got revenge against last weeks winner and World number 4 – Son Wan Ho. Nice.

Antonsen will now face Indonesia’s Shesar Hiren Rhustavito in the second-round tomorrow.

Stoeva sisters eliminated

It was a disappointing day for Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva (Bulgaria) however, who lost their opening round match to hometown favourites Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu (Indonesia).

The Bulgarians were always in for a tough match against the fourth seeds but will still be disappointed to be leaving the tournament at this early stage.

The Europeans looked in charge of a tightly contested opening game when they held an 18-12 lead but eventually lost out 22-20 and were never able to bounce back from that in the second and were comfortably beaten 21-15.

The action in Jakarta continues tomorrow with the second round in each of the five categories. Keep up to date with the latest results and draws here.
