After a successful trial period of Mixed Doubles pairing, Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek will continue their partnership on court.
The Badminton Nederland Bonds coaches have decided to support the continuation of this new combination towards the 2019 European Games and Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualification.
During their trial period, Tabeling and Piek were able to reach the semi-final of the Perodua Malaysia Masters with convincing victories over the Indonesian Rio Olympic Games Gold medalists, Tontowi Ahmad and World ranked number seven, Chris and Gabrielle Adcock from England.
Badminton Nederland will now also trial a new Mixed Doubles pairing: Rio Olympian Jacco Arends together with the young and dynamic Cheryl Seinen.
- In order to show the Netherlands what an amazing and dynamic international sport Badminton is, we need to become more visible. The best way to achieve that is via performances at big moments such as the Olympic Games,Technical Director, Victor Anfiloff, said.
- We will take the risks needed to form new teams that have the potential to qualify and then perform at the Olympic Games. Merely participating is no longer enough, he added.
- We have the ambition to become a structural world top Badminton country. I have full confidence that our new Mixed teams, together with the technical staff, will give everything to maximise the chances of fulfilling our ambition.
