The Dutch newcomer pair Robin Tabeling/Selena Piek has been a success since they play together on court.
Selena Piek’s Mixed Doubles partner, Jacco Arends, sustained a relatively serious injury at the Scottish Open, meaning the pair had to retire at the later stages.
Robin Tabeling told Badminton Europe, that it was decided by their coaches that he and Selena Piek would take a trial on court, while Jacco Arends was injured.
What next for the Dutch Mixed Doubles?
Tabeling and Piek will play the next tournament together in Malaysia and after that, a decision will be made as to who will go forward in the Mixed Doubles.
- As Jacco got injured, my new partnership with Selena is an opportunity to try it out arisen, Robin Tabeling said.
- We will play in Malaysia as well together and after that, Jacco is fit again and the coaches will make the decision who will play Mixed together, he added.
It has been a good trial so far
The first tournament which the pair decided to trial themselves was the Thailand Masters this week and to their credit, they managed to reach the Quarterfinals of the tournament.
- We are really happy about the Mixed performance so far. It is the first time for me and Selena, so it was a good start with what I think were some good wins, Tabeling said.
