As we approach the midway point of the Thailand Masters, there is still a considerable amount of European participation, with the quarterfinals taking place on Friday.

The first win of the day came for the new Dutch pair Robin Tabeling/Selena Piek, who managed to brush off the number five seeds from Indonesia, Ronald Ronald/Annisa Aaufika.

There was one shock, with the number two seeds in Mixed Doubles going out to unseeded opponents, as the Japanese pair Keiichiro Matsui/Yoshinori Takeuchi knocked out Aaron Chia/Wooi Yik Soh from Malaysia.

Starting as you mean to go on

For the first time in their careers, Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek are a pair on court for the Thailand Masters this week - and the new Dutch partnership is a successful one.

The pair has reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, by winning a reasonably comfortable match against their Indonesian opponents (21-18, 21-17) to progress to the next round.

The Dutch newcomer pair will now test themselves against the number five pair in the world, Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai, in the Quarterfinals.

Leverdez back on form

Alongside Tabeling/Piek, there is Brice Leverdez reaching the last eight of the tournament, after beating Subhankar Dey in a comfortable straight-game victory (21-19, 21-10).

The French star did not endure a perfect 2018 but has definitely started this year on the front foot. Leverdez will now play against Lee Zii Jia in the Quarterfinals of the Thailand Masters on Friday.

The Frenchman won the last and only contest against his Malaysian opponent at the 2017 Bitburger Badminton Open, winning in a three-game match.
