There was a lot of drama in the Hong Kong coliseum on quarter-finals day. Many of the matches going the distance. And one hotly anticipated match-up in the Women’s Singles did not disappoint.

The reigning world and Olympic champion, Carolina Marin faced the current world number one, Tai Tzu Ying. From the very first rally, it was clear that this was going to be another high-quality affair. Marin looked focused and clinical in the first game, which was secured 21-18. Following a great start in the second game, Tai Tzu Ying stepped up a level and put on a spectacle of fantastic shots for the crowd. She was able to maintain this and Marin had no answers. The match was then put to bed in entertaining fashion, 21-9, 21-14.

A record can be set
The Taiwanese star will now face Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in the semi-final and continues her campaign to become the first female player to win three of the same title in a row in the Super Series era.
