The Mixed Doubles pair Robin Tabeling/Cheryl Seinen are through to the next round of the YONEX French Open.
After managing to get the better of Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh from Malaysia.
Continuing the form in the early stages of recent tournaments for the Dutch, the two managed to see off the number seven seeds in three games coming from one game down, to win overall with three close games, 19-21, 21-18, 21-18.
Staying focused is a good thing!
Tabeling and Seinen speaking to Badminton Europe after the match believe that staying focused despite losing the first game was important in winning the match, overall.
- I think it was very tight, the scores were very close. The key was to play away from her (Liu Ying Goh), she is really world class net player. When we did that we were able to step up ourselves and gain the initiative, Robin Tabeling said.
- Especially, in the end, I thought Cheryl (Seinen) did an amazing job which allowed me to push up and close it off from the backcourt, I think that was the key, especially in the third, he added.
- I think when we lost the first game it was not like a mental break and I thought we did really well but we thought we could do much better. You see when we challenged them they got it hard against us, Cheryl Seinen commented.
What next for the Mixed Doubles?
Tabeling/Seinen having gotten through to the next round of the tournament will now play tomorrow against either Lee Chun Hei Reginald/Chau Hoi Wah from Hong Kong or Yuta Watanabe/ Arisa Higashino from Japan.
