Indonesian Men’s Doubles pair, Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo, are through to the next round of the YONEX French Open after beating German pair, Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Emil Seidel, in the first round.

The match swung in the German’s favour in the first game, when they managed to take a close game, 18-21, but in the second and third game, they were shown exactly why the pair from Indonesia is the best in the world. The Indonesian Double won 18-21, 21-12, 21-14.

Positive minds despite defeat

Seidel and Lamsfuss believe that they tried their best to win the match, but they found it difficult to stay at a high level throughout all three games.

- A lot of things that we tried to do worked. Unfortunately, they stepped up their game a little bit in the second and third game. So, it was difficult to maintain our performance, Marvin Seidel told Badminton Europe.

- I think the hall is quite slow and we could play more rallies. The defence was much better and I think this was the key, as to why we won the first game. The second and third game, our lifts were not good enough, Mark Lamsfuss said.

Conditions change the momentum

Marcus Gideon, speaking to Badminton Europe, believes that the court and the shuttle were different compared to the previous tournament which gave him and Sukamuljo and extra challenge.

- The opponents played really well today, the shuttlecock and the court was a lot different from last week in Denmark, the shuttle was really slow here which made it harder for us to win the match, Marcus Gideon said.

- Of course, we want to win here too, but we just take it easy, step by step, one by one, he added.
