Last week, Badminton Europe (BEC) hosted a BWF Coach Education Level 1 & 2 Course, which was available for both former and current players and coaches to take part in.

The course began on Sunday and ran through to the end of the week, by which time the participants knew more about the coaching part badminton.

The course was led by Badminton Europe’s COE Head Coach Jeroen Van Dijk and Badminton Europe’s tutor Tom Causer.

A good week

The six-days' course consisted of a number of things taking place, the shuttle time introduction being the first session.

Then, the participants were put through their paces, both mentally and physically, which involved planning, fitness, tactical skills progression and much more.

Badminton Europe’s COE Head Coach revealed how he felt the course had gone so far when he spoke to our team on Tuesday.

- It's going really well, these courses are very interesting because we have players here who have been playing a lot of badminton through the years and they have a lot of unique experiences, Van Dijk told BEC.

- For us as Tutors, it is very good to have the discussions because we see that the players are learning a lot from each other.

Sometimes playing is not enough

Christian Lind Thomson (Denmark) was one of the participants and he revealed to BEC that he just could not get enough of the game and that is why he is taking up the coaching.

- Last year I just tried to get out of badminton to get another job but I think I am still extremely motivated and I have decided to take up the coaching part, Lind Thomson told BEC on Tuesday.
- I'm not getting any younger, I am 33 now. This summer I had a camp and they recommended this course. I am looking forward to learning from other coaches, he said.
