India’s Saina Nehwal will be the representative for her country in the finals of the Denmark Open after she comfortably beat Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in straight games.

The first game was a sign of things to come for Nehwal as she took it in style, 21-11 before sealing the win in the second with a similar margin win 21-12.

It was still a tough match

Nehwal believes that the match was much harder than people thought it was, and explained to Badminton Europe, how it was on court.

-  It is definitely tough to play with someone who is up and coming and is doing really well. She has beaten quite a few top players, Saina Nehwal said.

-  It is difficult to play against someone who has quite a few tricky shots, but the fact that I was able to pick them up made a lot of difference.”

-  It was tough, of course, the scoreline was like that but it was a tough match for me it was not as easy as it looked from outside.

A long wait, worthwhile

The Indian explained to BEC, her difficulty making it to a final since she had an injury two years ago.

Nehwal revealed that she will watch the rest of the days matches before preparing for a big match of her own.

- I feel great to be playing finals. I have been looking forward to playing finals in super series since I had surgery in my knee in 2016.

-   I am really happy that I am now moving well and playing well after the Asian games.

 -  Even in the Korea Open, I lost to Okuhara (Nozomi Okuhara) and she went on to win the tournament so that was a missed chance.

 -  But here I am in the finals of the Denmark Open, belief makes a lot of difference and of course working on areas where I need to improve and I feel like I have done that.
