Linda Efler is currently ranked 25th in mixed doubles and 160th in women’s double. The German player spoke with Badminton Europe about new and old partners and her personal ambitions.

Even though Linda Efler is just 23 years old, the German is quite experienced, not only in playing badminton but in getting new partners. Just in the last two years, the mixed and women’s doubles player had more than eight different double partners.

World rank 12 in summer
Thereby, Efler is most successful in mixed doubles. At least, when she is playing with her current and steady partner, Marvin Emil Seidel.

According to Efler, it has been a good summer for the German mixed pair:

- The tournaments in summer went very well for us. After we came back from Canada and the USA, Marvin and I were even ranked 12th in the world. However, we could not fulfil our expectations in the Asian tournaments in September. But we are on a good path for the future.

In June, Efler and Seidel participated the YONEX Canada Open and the YONEX US Open. The mixed double reached the semi-finals in Canada and the final in the USA.

In September, the pair was not able to reach the round of 16 at the DAIHATSU YONEX Japan Open, the VICTOR China Open and the VICTOR Korea Open.

A German mix
The latest victory of Efler and Seidel took place in 2017: the mixed double won the White Nights against Isabel Herttrich and Mark Lamsfuss.

Now, Efler is not playing against but with Herttrich after Carla Nelte, Herttrich’s former partner resigned from the German national team in September.

- Isabel and I are a very new pair, we played two tournaments on an international level so far. The time will show, how it is going with us, but I am very optimistic that we will be a good team.

Efler and Herttrich were participating in the VICTOR China Open and the VICTOR Korea Open. In both tournaments, the pair did not manage to win one match. Thus, the pair is still waiting to celebrate their first win.

Tough draws in top tournaments
The next tournaments that are standing on the agenda for the new women’s pair are the Dutch, Denmark and French Open in October.

- The Denmark and French Open are very high-level tournaments. We intend to win at least the first round there and would be very happy to reach the quarter finals.

- The Dutch Open have not been on our agenda in the beginning. But as we are on the reserve list for the Denmark Open as a new pair, we decided to compete in Almere. The draws are tough, but we want to win as many rounds as possible and gain world rank points.

Big goals for the future
Next to winning matches at the upcoming Dutch, Denmark and French Open, the ambitious German double player has explicit goals for the future:

- My goal for the next months is to be in the Top 20 in mixed doubles and gaining as many points as possible in women’s doubles to qualify for high-level tournaments in the future.

- My biggest goal is Tokyo 2020. It will be a long and tough path to qualify for the Olympics, but I will work hard to reach it. But I have further goals such as winning medals at the European Championships or at the BWF World Tour tournaments.
