On Saturday, the quarter and semi-finals of the European Senior Championships 2018 got underway in Guadalajara. Thereby, three women won three matches in three categories and are qualified for the finals on Sunday.
All the good things are three, that is the motto of Day 6 at the European Senior Championships in Spain. Claudia Vogelgsang, Georgy van Soerland-Trouerbach and Betty Bartlett reached three finals, in the singles, doubles and mixed competition.
All of them have high chances of winning at least one medal. Dutch player van Soerland-Trouerbach would be happy to succeed in the category of 40-year-old:
- I hope that I get at least one gold medal here. Of course, I would be very happy about that.
The first seeded against the second
The Dutch and first seeded in the singles is playing in the final against the German and second seeded, Claudia Vogelgsang.
- It will be tough to play against Claudia, I never played against her before and she is strong.
The finals on Sunday will start at 12.00 AM (CET). Alberto Carazo, General Secretary of the Spanish Badminton Association and organiser of the European Senior Championships 2018, is happy about the organisation of the tournament so far:
- In 2004, we also hosted this tournament in Spain. We had 300 participants during that time, so this is a huge increase since then. We are proud to host 1200 participants.
Spain's fifth tournament this year
The European Senior Championships are not the first tournament this year, that Carazo has managed:
- We have organised five international badminton events in six months this year: The European championships in Huleva, the Mediterranean games 2018, the Spanish International, the Barcelona Spanish Masters and now the European Senior championships.
On Sunday, around 40 final matches are going to take place in the Palacio Multiusos de Guadalajara.
