In the form they have been in this season, it seems unlikely that any pair can prevent the Grimleys from becoming European Champions. Especially considering that the number one seeds from Scotland have not lost to a European pair this year.

If they achieve this feat, then they will win the first gold medal at the European Junior Championships for Scotland.

Last year, they bowed out in the quarter-finals, in an extremely tight match against Danes Daniel Lundgaard and Jesper Toft, ending 19-21, 21-19, 21-19.

In Yogyakarta, Indonesia, for the 2017 World Junior Championships, they put together a solid run to the Round of 16. They were one of only two European pairs to achieve this. The other pair being French duo Thom Gicquel and Leo Rossi. Gicquel was crowned European Men's Doubles when playing with Popov that year.

So the omens are looking good this time around for Matthew and Chistopher Grimley. Chistopher, who is the youngest by only an hour, is also taking part in the Men's Singles and is seeded fourth.
