Badminton Europe’s Centre of Excellence (COE) has been starting up the new season with physical tests, which was done with the researchers at Stenhus Gymnasium. The COE players are happy to get back to ‘work’.

Gerda Voitechovskaja from Lithuania has been part of the high-performance centre from the very start in September last year. A year has almost passed since then, and she is has just returned to the centre after a short break.

- I haven’t practiced since my last tournament which was Lithuania International in the middle of June, so I didn’t practice at all. Just before I came here I did like four practices of badminton, so I have been off court, Voitechovskaja explains.

Despite being off court for a little while the Lithuanian was back in the halls of Stenhus Gymnasium and was able to finish all the physical tests that was planned for August 6 and 8.

First time trying these tests
The two days of testing was scheduled with body analysis (bio-impedance), badminton speed test, y-balance test, counter movement-jump and a badminton endurance test on the first day, while 1RM leg press, VO2 max, Biering-Sørensen test and flexor endurance test on the second.

- Actually, some of them it was the first time for me. Not leg press because we do that in the gym but the others like running with the mask for the VO2 max, I did that for the first time. So, it was so interesting, she told Badminton Europe.

- He told me that he will analyze the data and send the results, so it will be very interesting to see my results and how it looks and for what I have to work on.

Going in the right direction
Back home over the short summer break, Voitechovskaja met with physios to find out why she was having pain in her lower back.

- I did exercises. I wasn’t like physical, so I just worked more with my injury, with my weakness, than playing badminton. Now, it’s a little bit better, so I think it is going in the right direction, the 27-year-old Lithuanian said.

- I’m playing my first tournament in Ukraine from the 29th of August so it’s quite soon, so I will try to play there, and I hope that I will be in quite good shape then.
