Badminton Europe is proud to present Tamara Geeraerts as the newest member of the BEC office in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Tamara Geeraerts had her first day a little more than a week ago and is already busy with her tasks in the event department. She left her life in Belgium and a job in Badminton Vlaanderen behind to move to Copenhagen and start at Badminton Europe (BEC).

- It has been pretty exciting these last couple of months. I’m just trying to get settled and get all the paperwork in order, so that I can start building up a new social life. It was hard for me to leave my friends and family in Belgium, so that’s why I’m going to fly back and forth every month.

The 31-year-old Belgian grew up in Herenthout, a small village in the Dutch speaking part of the country. She has Master’s degrees in Physical Education and Exercise & Sport Psychology from KU Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven).

Fell in love with the sport
Geeraerts has always been passionate about archery. She shoots a bow herself and has been archery coaching at national level. She hoped to be working for the Flemish archery federation but applied at the badminton federation afterwards.

- Working for a federation seemed like a nice job and they were looking for someone. I got the job and I was soon completely in love with the sport!, Geeraerts, who plays badminton at recreational level, explains.

- I started out as a recreational coordinator at Badminton Vlaanderen, but the last 2 years I moved up to being the Administrative Director. I was responsible for the realization of our long-term goals regarding content and finances, as well as para-badminton and supporting our clubs. I also played a major role in the organization of the Yonex Belgian International as Vice Tournament Director.

Events in Europe
Events Junior Manager Matthieu Hecker assists the new Events Manager on a daily basis and they now complete the events team of Badminton Europe.

- Being Events Manager allows me to travel a lot, which is also a passion of mine, and combine this with something I love to do, i.e. organizing events. I also look forward to meeting a lot of new people all around the world.

With Tamara Geeraerts joining the BEC staff, the number of employees is at nine, but will over the next months grow to 13. Badminton Europe has exciting things in store for the future and the organization is happy to have Tamara on board.
