Badminton Ireland has launched another addition to the Badminton Ireland academy adding an international training package. The package offers a world class training environment for players who would like to train on both a short and long-term basis.

The training takes place in the National training centre in Marino institute of Education which is a Badminton Europe certified training centre. Players around Europe can avail of the Badminton Europe scholarship system which can be found under the Development section at badmintoneurope.com

The academy has already had a number of International players training including 2012 Olympian Hadia Hosny of Egypt and a number of underage players, Ciaran Fitzgerald and Runa Plu of Germany, Pierre Georgel of France, Michael Jennings and Prakash Vijayanth of South Africa.

The academy is directed by high performance lead Tom Reidy, Irish National Coach Daniel Magee and International academy coaches Ben Caldwell, Will O’Neil and Zhu Min. Players will train in the international academy alongside Irish Olympian Chloe Magee who is ranked 42 in the World, Sam Magee who is ranked 40 in the World in mixed doubles and Jonathan Dolan who was ranked top ten in the World Junior rankings in men’s singles in 2012.

Prakash Vijaynath is an example of a player who has moved to train in the academy on a full time basis. The South African who is targeting the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Rio Olympics in 2016 moved to Ireland early 2013 to train while studying in Trinity College. The 19 year old Johannesburg native will benefit through a sports scholarship with Trinity College.

"I moved to Ireland to continue my training and I have applied for a Sports Scholarship with Trinity College. I have enjoyed my training so far and feel that the training environment in Marino will give me a good opportunity to reach my full potential. My long-term Goal is to represent South Africa at the next Commonwealth Games and the Rio Olympics in 2016 and I believe this setup will help me achieve my goals", said Prakash Vijayanath.
