England's number one partnership remain Europe's sole contenders as first seeds in the mixed doubles event.  The pair are currently ranked at number six in the official BWF World Rankings and are through to the quarter finals in the TOYOTA Thailand Open 2018.

Chris and Gabrielle Adcock will continue their all-Indonesian affair after overcoming Andika Ramadiansyah and Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso in the first round and defeating Ricky Karandasuwardi and Debby Susanto in the second round to set up a quarter-final clash against another Indonesian pair - fifth seeds Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti.

Adcock's came out strong in the first set

Though to the Qtr finals here in Thailand!! We won in 2 sets against Debby/Ricky from Indonesia. 21-9 22-20, first set we came out strong but had to work hard for the 2nd set. Coming back from 20-18 down! Good performance in general. Bring on tomorrow! - Chris Adcock (Instagram)

The married couple remain Europe's last hope for a medal in this year's championships as England's Ben Lane and Jessica Pugh went down to eight seeded Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja from Indonesia 21-13 21-18. The fourth seeded pairing of Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith went down to China's Xiangyu Ren and Tang Jinhua in a closely contested 21-16 16-21 21-17.

Lauren Smith and Jessica Pugh competed in the women's doubles later in the day, along with compatriots Chloe Birch and Jenny Moore, alongside Rajiv Ouseph in the men's singles. Other European interest which exited the tournament in the second round include Bulgaria’s sister-partnership, Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva, and Emilie Lefel and Anne Tran from the Netherlands.

The tournament continues with the quarter finals taking place on Friday 13 July. Keep up to date with the latest scores and see if the Adcock's can live up to their first seed by clicking here.
