The group stages of the European Club Championships concluded this evening with no surprises as all top 8 expected teams advanced to the knockout stages. Only one of the two Polish sides in the competition made it through as hosts Hubal Bialystok ended their participation. SKB Litpol-Malow, the Polish champions, advanced as runners up of group 2 but have a lot to think about after a heavy defeat to the skeleton crew of Chambly 4-1 in the final group match.

Chambly had come into this tournament as the nearly team of recent years. The expectations were always high as French champions but silver has been their best result to date in 2014, 2016 & 2017. This year with only the bones of their normal full squad Chambly look unpressurised and sent out a warning beating SKB Litpol-Malow in emphatic style.

It was a bumper day for the French as top seeds Issy les Moulineaux also eased into the quarter finals with the Stoevas playing a big part in the defending champions group dominance.

Joining the French in the quarter finals are Primorye Vladivistok and the Russians now look to be the hot favourites with a squad depth that no other team can match. Reacreativo ies La Orden will be happy as group runners up to the Russians as they now avoid the Russians as they cannot be placed in the same side of the draw as group opponents.

2017 Bronze medallists Calvi Networks BC Milano dominated group 3 and bring BC 1973 Deltacar Benatky with them as group runners up. The final team in draw for the quarter finals is Lokomotiva Kosice of Slovakia.

In what was one of the most interesting matches of the day brothers Julien & Nicolas Carraggi (pictured above) faced off in the men’s singles match between Calvi Networks BC Milano and Bad 79 Anderlecht with the younger Carraggi brother coming out on top in three sets.
