It was a memorable afternoon for Dutchman Mark Caljouw, as his 21-13, 23-21 win over India’s Ajay Jayaram takes him to his second final of the year at the YONEX US Open.
After producing a strong performance in the quarter-finals,Caljouw matched that effort in the first set of his semi-final to take an early lead. Set number two however was much closer and more competitive. Both players were level for the entire set. But when it came to holding their nerve, Caljouw secured the straight sets victory, and a date with South Korea’s Lee Dong Keunin the final.

Seidel and Efler progress to mixed doubles final
In the mixed doubles, there was more European success as Germany’s Marvin Emil Seidel and Linda Efler comfortably toppled English pair Ben Lane and Jessica Pugh 21-17, 21-8.
A positive start in both sets ended up being the key in Seidel and Efler’s impressive victory. They now go into the final against Malaysia’s Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying looking for a second title of 2018,after their success at the Orleans Masters earlier in the year.
Losing to the Malaysian pair were fellow Germans Mark Lamsfuss and Isabel Herttrich 21-16, 21-14. The opening set saw Lamsfuss and Herttrich start well. But a quick turnaround from the Malaysian pair, wiped out any chance the Germans had of grabbing the first set. In the end, that would be the closest Lamsfuss and Herttrich would get to their third final of the year,as Chan and Goh took the share of the spoils in straight sets.
