Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Christinna Pedersen secured their first medal as a mixed pair when they beat 2017 bronze medallists from France, Ronan Labar & Audrey Fontaine.

The score of the match read 21-18, 21-16, which could indicate a victory without complications for the Danes, but that was not the case in the quarterfinal this Friday, in Huelva.

- We struggled a bit today but today we were better than yesterday, and yesterday better than the day before maybe, Christiansen told Badminton Europe.

- We are getting a little bit better each match and now we have a medal – but we are hungry for more, for sure.

The motivation for more
Christiansen won his first European medal, bronze, last year in men’s doubles, while Pedersen has a collection of six golds and one silver.

- This is the first European championships with Mathias and we have been looking forward to this. As Mathias said; we are hungry, we are ready to step on court tomorrow and give it good fight again, Pedersen said about the motivation to come back to the Europeans for more.

At this point it is still unknown which pair the Danes will face in the semifinal on Saturday, it will either be Marvin Emil Seidel and Linda Efler from Germany or Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith from England.
