Gabrielle and Chris Adcock entered the Carolina Marin Sports Hall in Huelva as top seeds, reigning European champions and recent Commonwealth champions.

On the other side of the net on court 3 were Pawel Smilowski and Magdalena Swierczynska from Poland, and the Polish got off to a good start as they took the lead from 4-4.

But the Adcocks found their form and came back to 10-10, and did not look back from there as the final score of the match was: 21-16, 21-10.

-  I think it was just getting the job done and being efficient and to get a feel for the arena. So, yeah and I think we did that very well and now we can focus on the next match, Gabby Adcock said to Badminton Europe after their victory.

High expectations no matter what
The Adcocks have high expectations for this week and hope that they can hit the same level from the Commonwealth Games earlier this month.

- I think we could look at it and say we have not had the best preparation, but then you could turn it on its’ head – I think we have had some great match practice out there, Gabby pointed out and continued;

- We didn’t play every single team match either like the last time. But we are feeling good, we are feeling ready for the tournament, and, we are just going to take it one game at a time and see how it goes.

Never an easy game against Fischer
The English duo know that the mixed doubles event is going to be a tough one this year and acknowledged great paris from Denmark and Germany. Round 2 on Thursday will be against Danish Joachim Fischer and Alexandra Bøje, and Chris gave his future opponent words of praise before their showdown on Thursday.

- I think, obviously Fischer is a great player and has a vast knowledge of the game and experience. It’s good to see him back on court though after his injury as well.

- The European Championships is always an extremely strong tournament and we had to play our best to last year to win it. Obviously, we just want to focus on ourselves and just take one game at a time.  I know it is what everybody says but it is the truth in this case, Chris said and smiled.
