On the banks of the Loire River in north-central France, Orléans will be hosting the Orleans Masters 2018 once again. Now being a BWF Tour Super 100 event, it makes the competition even more exciting and competitive. And this year the draw is full of quality.

One player who has come such a long way, both in ranking and in travel distance is Ygor Coelho of Brazil. When asked about his current form, he said

- This year I started badly, losing in the first rounds in 3 tournaments. But at the Brazil Open, 2 weeks ago I regained my confidence winning the tournament. Then playing Lee Chong Wei was a real pleasure (last week at the All England Championships 2018). I gave the best of my badminton and felt I have a lot to learn and improve to get to his level. But I'm very happy of the level reached through training for 1 year at Insep with the French National Team.

The tough side of the draw

With this regained confidence, and familiarity playing in France, a good run at the Orléans Masters may be on the horizon. However, No. 2 seed, Ygor Coelho understands the task that lays before him and says

- Many Danes and Indians are on my side of the draw so it will not be easy, but my goal in this tournament is still to defend my position and reach the semi-final.

I'm ready and very motivated by the challenge

Looking to the future, Ygor Coelho has set his sights on a very important goal to him, which is to defend his Panam Games title. Following this, Ygor says

- I'll spend one month training in Brazil and I'll probably play the U.S. Open and the Canadian Open before the World Championships. After this, my season is not defined yet. I'm working with my coach (Nadia Lyduch from Denmark) to set the goals for the rest of the year.

When asked about his thoughts on now reaching world ranking of 30 (as of last week), Ygor Coelho humbly stated that

- I know I will have to work even harder to improve (and even keep) my position. But I'm ready and very motivated by the challenge. For someone that came from Rio slums, I'm showing that it is worth to believe in your dreams.
