The Executive Committee for the 2018 European Championships in Huelva revealed the official mascot last weekend in a ceremony which took place at the end of Andalusian Senior Championships 2018 at Carolina Marin Sports Palace, the same venue where the Europeans will be celebrated.

The winner of the ‘Huelva 2018 Mascot Contest’ was ‘Chockyto’, a typical cuttlefish used as demonym for the population of Huelva. All schools and high schools in Huelva city took part in the contest.

The pupil who created the chosen mascot was Amanecer Garcia, a 14-year-old student from La Orden High School. Amanecer chose this symbol of Carolina Marin’s hometown to cheer up the Huelva idol and all players that will participate at the Europeans.

- Chockyto is a blue-eyed cuttlefish which feels badminton into the most deep of its soul, for this reason it’s going to enjoy, feel and help everyone who needs it, explains Amanecer.

This activity has been one of several activities that the Promotion & Volunteers’ area is going to develop throughout the beginning of 2018 to expose the European Championships among local, regional and national communities and fans.

Many kids took part in the contest with proposals like an Iberian lynx, a flamingo, a donkey and heroes with long history in Huelva such as Christopher Columbus, among others.

The 2018 European Championships will be organized from 24-29 April. Go to the event's page to find more information.
