Deadline day is getting closer and several players are fighting for a spot at the 2018 European Championships in Huelva.
The big individual championship of the year, the 2018 European Championships in Huelva is getting closer. On 22 February 2018 the BWF World Ranking decides which players and pairs are eligible to compete at the event, and the big fights for qualification is on.
In men’s singles, five Danish players are in the run for the four spots, that Denmark will have for the 2018 European Championships in Huelva. The biggest fight for point is between Emil Holst, ranked 39 in the world, and Rasmus Gemke, ranked 43.
Less than 4000 points is dividing the two players on the world ranking. Both players are at the moment in Asia to hunt the points in Malaysia, Indonesia and India.
French fight for three spots
The fight for Huelva is also on in France. Brice Leverdez has secured a spot, as he is ranked as no. five on the European ranking. Lucas Corvee is almost sure on a spot, but Thomas Rouxel, ranked 79 and Lucas Claerbout is fighting for the final French qualification spot. Only 20 points divides the two men’s singles.
In women’s singles, the Danish players are also fighting each other for a spot in Huelva. Line Kjærsfeldt (world ranked 40), Natalia Koch Rohde (41), Mette Poulsen (49) and Sofie Holmboe Dahl (53) are all competing for three spots in Huelva. 5300 points divides Kjærsfeld, the highest ranked, and Sofie Holmboe Dahl, the lowest ranked.
Qualification rules:
Ranked 1 to 12:
A Member Association may have more than four players/pairs ranked 1 to 12 in the European ranking list for a particular event. In such a case, the Member Association can enter any four (or fewer) of such players/pairs.
Ranked 1 to 24:
A Member Association may have more than three players ranked 1 to 24 in the European ranking list for a particular event. In such a case, the Member Association can enter any three (or fewer) of such players/pairs.
Ranked 1 to 48:
A Member Association may have more than two players ranked 1 to 48 in the European ranking list for a particular event. In such a case, the Member Association can enter any two (or fewer) of such players/pairs
Ranked 1 to 49 and lower:
If there are any open spots left:
A Member Association may have more than one player ranked in the European ranking list for a particular event. In such a case, the Member Association can enter any player/pair.
