Badminton Europe (BEC) reached out to one of the Bulgarian silver medalists from 2016, to hear her thoughts on the draw for the 2018 European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships.

- I think the draw for the Bulgarian team is a good one. Of course, it’s also tough because France has a good women’s team, Stefani Stoeva tells Badminton Europe.

Stefani Stoeva plays women’s doubles with her sister Gabriela, and the two of them are an important part of the Bulgarian women’s team in group 5, which consists of Bulgaria, France, Greenland and Belarus.

The Stoeva sisters live and train in Paris and play for the Issy les Moulineaux in the French badminton league. They will therefore find familiar faces on the other side of the net when Bulgaria plays France in the group stage.

- It will be tough match against the French team but we have good chance.

Hungry for more than silver
As runner ups from 2016, the Bulgarian women’s team will return to Kazan with the hopes of medals.

- We have to defend our silver medals from 2016 so of course our ambitions are bigger and we will give 100% to see the Bulgarian team on the podium again. We have two good singles and of course good first double so if we count on this we have big chance to go out from the group like seeded.

Stoeva believes that group 4 with Russia and Turkey will be an exciting group to watch when the championships begin, and she is looking forward to revisiting Kazan in February of 2018.

- I have good memories from 2016 in Kazan on court and off court so I’m looking forward to be back there and help the Bulgarian team to make history again.

The draw for the 2018 European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships was conducted live from the BEC office on 5 December, with assistance by Mia Blichfeldt from Denmark and can be watched again:
