He is one of the biggest talents in Europe and in Welsh International he showed that he is one to watch already. Nhat Nguyen claimed the title in men’s singles.

The Europeans had great success on the final day of Welsh International Saturday. Three of the finals were all European, and four times that day the spectators in Cardiff saw a European on top of the podium.

Irish Nhat Nguyen, 17, was seeded 7 in the tournament, but during the tournament it was clear, that the seeding wasn’t enough for the young men’s singles. In the quarter finals, he beat Indian Karan Rajan Rajarajan, seeded three, and in the final another Indian, the former winner of India Open and silver medallist at the Commonwealth Games, R. M. V. Gurusaidutt was struggling against the young talent losing 21-16 23-21 to the Irish.

Double up for Roe
In the mixed doubles category England claimed the title. Michael Roe and Jessica Hopton beat Søren Toft Hansen and Pernille Bundsgaard from Denmark 21-18 11-21 24-22 in a three games thriller lasting 47 minutes.

It was all in all a good tournament for Michael Roe. In the men’s doubles final he and Oliver Baczala, seeded six, beat Eloi Adam and Samy Corvee of France 21-23 23-21 22-20 in one of the most thrilling matches of 2017.
