The stage is set in Ulsan, South Korea for the Para-Badminton World Championships this week and there are plenty of European contenders for gold medals

Favourites among the European hopefuls include Lucas Mazur from France, Badminton Europe Para Player of the Year. Top seed in SL4 Mens Singles and SL3-SU5 Mixed Doubles, Mazur will be aiming for double-gold this week

- I feel excited and very happy to be here in Korea for an event like this! You know when you work hard for a long time, it’s always a pleasure to start a big competition.

England’s Rachel Choong is defending her 3 World Championship titles this week, in Singles, Doubles and Mixed to continue her domination of the women’s SS6 category:

- I’m very excited about this week and hope to replicate my success from 2015. It’s also fantastic to hear today that the next World Championships in 2019 will be held alongside the able-bodied World Champs in Basel!
Her teammate from England Krysten Coombs is also aiming for greatness this week. Number 1 seed in both SS6 Mens Singles and Doubles, Krysten had this to say when asked about his feelings this week:

- After the announcement for the Paralympics 2020, this is an exciting time to be at the top of the sport and I’m hoping to come home from the Worlds with two gold medals!

Other European medal contenders to look out for are Karin Suter-Erath, David Toupe and Thomas Wandschneider in the WH1 category. Bartlomiej Mroz and Ilker Tuzcu in SU5. Jack Shephard, Andrew Martin and Rebecca Bedford in SS6, and Helle Sofie Sagoy, Faustine Noel and Katrin Siebert in SL4, including Cathrine Rosengren in SU5..
