Mads Conrad-Petersen and Mads Pieler Kolding were up against their Danish colleagues Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, in the quarter-final at China Open.

For the third time in 2017, the two pairs faced each other in a Superseries quarter-final. But for the first time this year, Conrad and Kolding took the first set; 23-21. But in the end the scale tipped for Boe and Mogensen’s favor and they managed to win the next two sets; 23-21, 21-19.

- Today was is the small things. We made too many unprovoked errors in the middle of both sets which kept us behind all the time. On the contrary, we were sharp in the end of the sets which kept us in the game, and when it is tie at 19-19 it is like a lottery, Mads Conrad said to Badminton Europe.

- When we are measureing ourselves to Boe and Nuller, we are close to the best and that is satisfiying when we look back on how we performed at Denmark and French Open.

- There is a 25 percent chance
- The fact that we are seeded to meet Boe and Mogensen in seven consecutive quarter-finals in Superseries tournaments makes one wonder. There is a 25 percent chance each time so people are welcome to calculate their own propability for that. There must be a mistake in BWF’s draw system.

Conrad and Kolding are seeded to face them again in the next Superseries in Hong Kong next week, but Conrad ensuares that they are not going to give up without a fight, and that there are two matches to be won before reaching the quarter-final.

- Our main focus was to come back on track in China and we succeeded with that. We played three good matches and a total of seven good sets and we are very satisfied with that.

European semi-finals
Day 4 in Fuzhou opened with Carolina Marin from Spain’s quarter-final against He Bingjiao on court no. 1. The Olympic winner got the best start, but the Chinese crawled back which ended in a thrilling three-set match; 21-15, 22-24, 22-20.

The Danish mixed doubles, Mathias Christiansen and Christinna Pedersen delievered a huge surprise by beating the Olympic and world champions Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir; 15-21, 21-8, 21-16.

Viktor Axelsen, on the other hand, got a shaky start but managed to turn his game around to a victory against Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei. In the semi-final on Saturday, Ng Ka Long Angus from Hong Kong will be his opponent after his shock win against Lee Chong Wei.
