Korea Open kicked off today and the 23-year-old Scot cannot wait set foot on the courts in Seoul.

The Superseries tournament is the first tournament for the top players of the world since the TOTAL BWF World Championships in Glasgow, last month.

- I learned a lot from being on court in Glasgow, Gilmour tells Badminton Europe.

The local women’s singles had a great campaign and to the excitement of the home crowd, she reached the quarter-finals.

- I’ve taken a lot of confidence in my performances but also, I was able to recognise some areas that I want to continue to develop.

‘Great court coverage’ in the first round
- In my first round against Mitani I’m expecting to do some running.

Minatsu Mitani of Japan will be Gilmour’s opponent in round 1 tomorrow at Korea Open, and she is preparing herself for a tough opener.

- The Japanese girls always have great court coverage so I’ll do my homework on some specific things that I want to achieve in my tactics.

The bigger picture
- I don’t have a specific goal in Korea other than to build on my good performances in Glasgow, she explains.

- But in the bigger picture, my attention will slowly start to turn towards the Commonwealth Games in April, raising my World Ranking and generally continue to develop all aspects of my game.

If Gilmour makes it past Mitani tomorrow at 1:15 PM (local time), the first seed Tai Tzu Ying is likely to be her opponent in round 2.
